I’ve enjoyed making things since being little, whether it was from wool and needles or wood and nails but its always been casual, experimental (a nice way of saying I didn’t really know what I was doing) and self taught. Nowadays I have new motivations, the possibility of creating something beautiful, useful and sustainable.
Since getting to know lots of crafters and makers I’ve been inspired by their skills and knowledge. I’ve thought about how I could gain similar skills to make clothing and things for our home.
Imagine being able to make exactly what you want to wear with your choice of colours and materials. A unique piece of clothing, made by hand just to fit you. I think that’s exciting. Putting beautiful colours and materials together gives me butterlies in my tummy!
My other motivation is self-sufficiency and sustainability. Making your own clothes means making decisions about where they come from and learning valuable skills. Those decisions for me are influenced by the sources of the materials, waste involved, by-products and pollution and any other effects on the environment, people and animals.
So this is my journey of learning and applying craft and dress-making skills and discovering my style in a sustainable way.
Another arm of the blog is about vintage and second hand finds which will contribute to the overall feel. This is about more than fashion but also curiousity about the story behind a pre-loved item and the fact that it has a history, however old or new, that makes it special.
I’m not interested in following trends or wearing what I’m told. I’m interested in finding and making beautiful things that feel good.
